Factorio depleted oil

Crude oil is a liquid extracted by pumpjacks from oil fields and can be converted to petroleum gas, light oil, and heavy oil by an oil refinery. It can be transported either in pipes, barrels or fluid wagons . It can also be used as ammo in flamethrower turrets . The pumpjack will then output an amount of crude oil per cycle equal to 10 multiplied by the field's yield (e.g. 54 crude oil for 538% yield) per second. Without speed modules, one pumpjack cycle takes one second to complete. Extracting oil lowers the field's yield by 1% per 300 pumpjack cycles to a minimum of 20%

Lubricant is a fluid converted from heavy oil in a chemical plant. Like other fluids, it may be barreled . It is used in the production of express transport belts (blue belts) and their counterpart underground belts and splitters. It is also used to create electric engine units . Now you can fully exhaust depleted patches of crude oil. Just place an Oil Patch Exhauster on it and drain the remains. But be careful, since exhausting process is started it's impossible to save oil patches due to their unstability. Either oil patches are exhausted or Exhauster is dismounted or destroyed - oil patches get destroyed as well. If an oil patch is depleted, and assuming that: - Powering it is not a problem, and - There are no biters in range of the pollution it generates, and - Oil demand is being satisfied overall Is there any other reason not to continue using depleted oil patches forever? I actually had one pump, in a particular spot, that was running non-stop. . One of 3 things happened here. 1 you where actually using oil. Just a little bit, only enough to consume 1 pumps worth of oil. 2 you had a large piping system. pipes hold allot of oil Can take awhile to fill the entire system up. and if it was a long distance the pipe, the close side would have filled up before the far Now you can fully exhaust depleted patches of crude oil. Does crude oil run out? I have 3 pumpjacks all producing 0.1/s of oil and these jacks are in the way of where i would like to build. will the oil ever run out or just stay at 0.1/s ? 13 comments

Re: Better visual indication of depleted oil fields Post by ssilk » Sat May 14, 2016 6:52 pm With v0.13 you will (eventually) be able to measure the yield of the oil-field and you can so simply place a red lamp at every pump-station, which turns on, when yield is below X. Which is why big, dense patches of oil are ideal. Once they deplete (which happens at a rate of 1% per 75 'cycles' of the arm), you have all of these wells producing 0.1 crude/second. Load them up with SM3s (and I am talking late-game here, where the resource cost is kinda irrelevant) and put beacons (also with SM3s) Infinite Crude Oil? Maybe it's my map settings, but is it known that you can get infinite crude oil from pumpjacks because they never decrease below 0.1 units per second? I have a whole network of pipes dedicated entirely to "depleted" crude oil sources, and I can currently get a little more than one barrel every 25 seconds from it.

1 Apr 2019 How it used to work: no matter if a field was rich or poor, when depleted they would output the same amount of oil. How it should work now: fields deplete to 20 %

Oil processing is one of the most important things you will have to learn in Factorio. It is a research on the game's tech tree and a recipe that is used in the oil refinery -- but it also produces an item that is widely used in all kinds of processes in the game.

Results will be given for a depleted oil well, which provides 2 crude oil per second. As the amount of crude oil increases, the importance of optimal modules decreases since the power draw for a given amount of oil output also decreases. Using the minimum amount is important to prove that creating power from crude oil is always possible.
